Sam began his musical journey at age nine by teaching himself to play guitar. As a teenager, Sam continued to refine his craft, learning to play electric guitar, drums, and piano. Soon he began producing his own beats and rapping over them himself. He kickstarted his career by performing at venues in his hometown of Detroit and across the border in Canada. After years of releasing music independently, Sam was chosen to audition in Chicago for Netflix series Rhythm & Flow. Sam impressed hip hop legends Chance the Rapper, Royce Da 5'9 and Twista, Cardi B, and T.I. in the audition round and was flown out to LA to compete, where he reached the top 6.
