Wearing the heart and soul of his hometown on his sleeve, San Francisco-based rapper/producer Sam Cuervo lends his nonchalant vocal style, suave rhyme schemes and mesmeric production towards tales of city life. His self-released mixtape "City Soul" garnered him some attention in the local underground scene, and was followed by his debut studio album "Phantom On The Curb."

Born Samuel James Mercado, Cuervo was raised in San Francisco, CA's Excelsior District, where he was surrounded by his Mexican-American culture. Despite reveling in the good times, Cuervo's younger years also witnessed the darker sides of inner city life, everything from gang violence to substance abuse. Finding escapism in the music of Carlos Santana and Jimi Hendrix, he taught himself to play guitar and managed to become a fairly skilled musician by the time he reached high school, where he honed his craft further in his school’s jazz band. It was around this time that Cuervo first dabbled into the world of hip-hop, creating beats and penning rhymes that would become the pre-cursor to his eventual musical style. It was after high school and in the latter half of the 2010s that his artist persona was born, eventually seeing the release of his debut mixtape "City Soul." Weaving tales from his life and his love for his city into his music, Cuervo continues to develop his sound and style, with his debut album now available everywhere.
