With a voice like a chainsaw dipped in honey and set on fire, Sam and his band effortlessly blend lush, quick flowing arrangements of hard-hitting drums, guitars, strings, and winds, with raw, passionate lyrics, soaring melancholic melody lines, and pop sensibility. Sam’s music has been frequently described as theatrical, and that he wears his musical theater influence on his sleeve. Complicated modal harmony is mixed with classic chord progressions; intense vocals, drums, and guitars are mixed with soothing pianos and strings; all held together with soulful performances. He has been compared to bands like Twenty One Pilots, Death, John Lennon, Slayer, and “if The Beatles or Billy Joel was metal.”
