Jamaican vocalist Samantha J makes reggae and dancehall-informed pop and R&B. Born Samantha Gonsalves in Kingston in 1996, J was initially discovered by an Ocho Rios talent agency that helped launch her modeling career. In 2013, J released an audio track on YouTube for the single "Tight Skirt," which was built around a sample from the 1997 Red Rat dancehall cut "Tight Up Skirt." The song quickly caught on with the public, garnering over 15,000 views online. An official music video for "Tight Skirt" appeared online soon after. Two more singles followed in 2015 -- "Bad Like Yuh" and "League of My Own," featuring Dej Loaf. A year later, she paired with Norwegian pop duo Marcus & Martinus for the single "Light it Up." In 2017, J returned to her own solo material with the single "Baby Love," featuring R. City. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
