Sam "Samk" Kim is a New York City-based producer, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Ever since he was a young kid, he was surrounded by music. He took private lessons in classical piano, drums/percussion, guitar, bass, and even trumpet for a short time. He began taking music more seriously when he joined his high school jazz ensemble. This ultimately led him to where he is today—studying jazz, music theory, and music education.
Sam began creating music under the mononym "Samk" in 2018 because he didn't believe that people were going to listen to his music. To him, the name represents his truest self—a name that cannot be detached from his music and personality. Much of Sam's influence comes from jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and indie pop music. While he has experimented in other genres (and likely will in the future), he has found a happy medium of styles in recent months.
