S.G.M. founded several bands: Gruppo di Espressività Sonora (avant-garde music), the Nuova Orchestra da Camera di Cagliari, the New Jazz Symphonic Orchestra, Il Rasoio di Ockham (folk-jazz-rock-flamenco), and the Drink-the-Moon Sextet (electro-acoustic contemporary), Quatuor Lunaire (avant-garde and improvised music).
Compositions of his were and are performed by chamber formations, even by several jazz/rock bands, broadcast, etc. In his songs, both his more intimate and his more extrovert sides are evident, as well as they are in his various (some simpler, some more complex) instrumental pieces.
