Santaelza, Brazilian musician and songwriter started playing music aged 10 in the bustling city of São Paulo, where he is from. Influenced at an early age by his father who played the piano accordion, Santaelza was surrounded by traditional Brazilian folk music and the rhythms of samba and bossa nova from the beginning. Since moving to Europe almost 10 years ago, Santaelza has been influenced by a range of world music and has been particularly influenced by folk music and the dialogue between culture and music. His music is a fusion of traditional Brazilian rhythms with contemporary lyrics and melodies that speak to the diversity of music and culture within Brazil as well as exploring the complexity of the immigrant experience and the nuances of modern identity.

Writing mostly in Portuguese but also in English, Santaelza’s music continues to evolve and be influenced by European and world music. He continues to return to Brazil for gigs while enjoying playing for audiences around Ireland and all over Europe.
