From 2015 through 2021, Seattle-based Americana singer-songwriter Sarah Brunner played almost 1,000 live shows. A professional musician, she honed her chops with cover gigs, playing everything from Johnny Cash to The Weeknd to Sheryl Crow — all of which can be heard in her distinctly folksy-yet-not-folksy rhythm guitar playing. It’s a rare singer-songwriter that uses rhythm guitar just as much as vocal melody to define a song, but Brunner takes pride in “driving the bus.” After a five-year hiatus from releasing original music (her latest EP, Brink of Love, dropped in July of 2016), Brunner is following up her first single, “Caravan” (feat. Tyler McGinnis) with “Birdie,” an old-timey queer country song.
