scarlet dahlias are Ash (they/them) and Evey (she/her) - a psychedelic dream pop duo based on Yorta Yorta country, regional Victoria, Australia.

Over the past ten months, we've been recording our debut album at home using a secondhand fostex four-track cassette recorder. The result is "identity crisis", a lo-fi, patchwork debut that plays like an unearthed obscure alternative mixtape from the late ‘80s. The songs range from fuzzy shoegaze and gothic electronic confessionals, to raw ambient folk and dreamy slowcore, unified by themes of rural isolation, dislocation, and navigating queer identity in a conservative regional town. Our influences are extremely varied, but "identity crisis" owes particular homage to artists like Cindy Lee, Mazzy Star, Neil Young, grouper and the Microphones.

"identity crisis" was released on streaming and hand-created cassette on Halloween 2025 - a perfect date for an album about navigating your identity.
