Scott began his musical career in the mid 1980s. By 1987 he had begun work on demos for what would have been his debut solo album
with Dave King (of FMs ‘Indiscreet’ fame), but, unfortunately, this time around, it wasn't meant to be.
By 1990, new tracks written and performed by Scott found themselves attracting the attention of famed A&R executive, John Kalodner, at Geffen Records in the U.S. Under a new development deal he was offered, he worked on creating more songs for a potential album. But again, sadly, any hope of a release were dashed due to unforeseen drastic changes in the musical landscape.
Fast forward to 2023 and Scott decided to bring together several songs created by him in the 80s combined with brand new tracks, releasing the finished product as ‘Right Before Your Eyes’, his (long overdue) debut album.
This release was successful enough to encourage Scott to set about writing and recording a second album, which became ‘Breaking Loose’, again using a mix of songs penned in the 80s, together with some brand new compositions.
As with his previous work, both albums channel the spirit of the golden era of AOR - when the U.S. charts were ruled by high-octane rockers and heartfelt power ballads. But this is no mere nostalgia trip. Scott Free is here to remind fans that the sound never died - it just got better with age.
Less a case of "looking back with affection", but rather "never left and still "lovin’ every minute of it".
