Selima Terras is a Tunisian singer-songwriter, and cellist who is passionate about building community through music. She began her musical journey as a classically trained pianist and joined the conservatory of El Manar in Tunis where she studied Arab music theory. She continued her secondary education at the African Leadership Academy in Johannesburg where she focused on creative arts, entrepreneurship and history. Throughout the years, Selima developed a versatile artistic identity that allowed her to spread her voice across borders and cultures. She uses her passion for music to write theme songs for organizations such as Tounes Alwen (Colorful Tunisia) or the South African Ideas Festival (SAIF). Curious and polyvalent, Selima is studying anthropology, environmental studies, and music compositions at Bowdoin College. She is undertaking an independent research project through her podcast: “Radio Habibi: Imagining Futures through Music” where she interviews purpose-driven musicians from around the world to nurture stronger imaginations of the role of artists in challenging the status quo and building empowering realities. Selima currently works with 88 International, an organization developing context specific youth empowerment projects through music in Tunisia, Senegal Morocco, and The Gambia. In her free time, Selima loves to practice cello, garden, wander, and imagine futures with friends.
