Selsom is the composer alias of songwriter and producer Stian Vedøy. Growing up on a rural windswept, west coast island in Norway made the choice of hobbies narrow. Being part of a musical family, the piano became a fundamental part of his routine from the age of 6. "In retrospect I’m incredibly thankful to my parents for that choice." During his teenage years he stumbled onto music production. After doing a course, he fell in love with it and decided later to study it at university level. This is what brought him to the UK.
Most of Vedøy's adult life has been dedicated to the indie folk pop project called <a href="spotify:artist:4ueLGSUjr5bROoGkeZU4cW" data-name="Firewoodisland">Firewoodisland</a> and it wasn’t until he saw <a href="spotify:artist:7E3BRXV9ZbCt5lQTCXMTia" data-name="Ólafur Arnalds">Ólafur Arnalds</a> in concert that he finally decided to make an outlet for his Ambient / Neo-classical pieces. However, it had to take a world pandemic to actually start Selsom. It started as a concept project to keep Stian busy through lockdown. 2020's concept is based on the fact that Norway has 100 words related to snow. 12 of those words will be composed, produced and released - one track a month for a year.
