Sergio Foresti (1968) is a virtuoso Italian baritone with a special love for music of the 18th and 19th century. His repertoire encompasses opera from baroque to late romantic, sacred music, and art song up until the 20th century. Foresti graduated in both opera singing and piano at the conservatory of Modena (IT) and a decade later in vocal chamber music in Florence (IT). From the start he explored several musical styles in depth. For about 15 years he took the bass part in renaissance polyphony and medieval music with groups like Concerto Italiano and LaReverdie. Since the early 90's he sings as a soloist in sacred music from all style periods. His debut in opera was in 1998 as Alcandro in Vivaldi’s L’Olimpiade. Since then he worked with important conductors like René Jacobs, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Fabio Biondi, and Jordi Savall. He performed on many stages all over Europe. On stage he loves to portray dramatic and heroic characters, and he has a knack for comical opera.

Sergio Foresti decided to restudy his vocal technique and the belcanto style of singing, that came to life with the invention of opera around 1600. Next to the technical aspects, he studied the old sources for stylistic insights, such as ornamentation. He found a treasure trove of examples of belcanto singing in the early recordings of great singers of the past. His conclusion is that above all music has always created to move the soul. This is the path he wants to follow.
