Shai Maestro (b. 1987) is one of jazz’s most inventive pianists. Since debuting his trio in 2011, he has forged a fluid, lyrical voice that blends improvisation, composition, and global influences into a deeply personal, cinematic sound.
Classically trained from age five, Maestro discovered jazz at eight through Keith Jarrett and Oscar Peterson. At nineteen, he joined Avishai Cohen’s trio, co-writing Gently Disturbed and touring worldwide. His own trio’s six albums established him as a singular force in modern jazz.
At ECM Records, under Manfred Eicher, he recorded The Dream Thief and Human, expanding the jazz quartet’s expressive range. Now, his quartet—with keyboardist Gadi Lehavi, drummer Ofri Nehemya, and bassist Jorge Roeder—pushes boundaries, blending improvisation and modern production.
Signed to naïve records in 2025, Maestro’s solo album Solo: Miniatures & Tales showcased his introspective depth. He returns in 2026 with a bold new project.
