Music found Shaq'Khi in 2004 when he chose to play alto saxophone in elementary school. At home he wasn't tuned into much music from the TV but songs from Outkast, T.I. & Lil Bow Wow stood out. His mom would play mainly reggae music, Badu, India Arie, Sade, Jill Scott, & Michael Jackson. The youth were barely inside where he grew up and the culture outside was G-Unit, Dipset, Soulja boy & Weezy. In the pursuit to elevate his craft he began to study genres of music outside of Hip-Hop, mainly soft rock & alternative music like Gorillaz, Bon Iver, MGMT, Radiohead, Coldplay, Father John Misty & many more. With this new found love for other genres Shaq’Khi made it a goal to blend those sounds.
Shaq’Khi's distinguishable vocals, unique writing style & hands on approach to recording, mixing, & graphic designing makes his sound & image come together seamlessly.
Shaq'Khi has most recently released his full length project "More Power To You" which was released 1 year before the film. The album tells a story about actualizing your dreams & the wild realities of the life they come with, ultimately realizing that it takes a balance between the wild life (night life) & wildlife (nature) to get there. The film is an ode to Scarborough & its natives. It is a deeper dive into a day in the life of a Scarborough creative on the journey to make their dreams a reality
