Sharleen Spiteri had already achieved success as the co-founder and frontwoman of the Scottish band <a href="spotify:artist:5JsdVATHNPE0XdMFMRoSuf">Texas</a> before embarking on her solo projects. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Spiteri began her musical career with <a href="spotify:artist:5JsdVATHNPE0XdMFMRoSuf">Texas</a> in 1986 as lead singer and guitarist. She would continue her work with the band throughout the '90s, as well as appearing as a vocalist on albums by <a href="spotify:artist:1dip2dCkBIylIFyDfZQfFu">Gun</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6wWVKhxIU2cEi0K81v7HvP">Rammstein</a>. After the release of <a href="spotify:artist:5JsdVATHNPE0XdMFMRoSuf">Texas</a>' album Red Book in 2005, Spiteri began work on her first album, Melody, which she would co-produce with <a href="spotify:artist:28pqwEjm2WDueRWP4AjA1x">Bernard Butler</a>.
