Shugazi was formed by two long time friends Tim Martinez (<a href="spotify:artist:2Q4WNAO70lrq7ZfCvuicLD" data-name="TimstroMental">TimstroMental</a>/ <a href="spotify:artist:0cyfl5IgpBd5Rm3zN90xWN" data-name="Momxdad">Momxdad</a>) and Joey Maramba (NinjaAcademy, John Cale, <a href="spotify:artist:1nJvji2KIlWSseXRSlNYsC" data-name="The Velvet Underground">The Velvet Underground</a>). Both share a deep passion for all things Shoegaze, the 90s and lo-fi sounds. The combination of distorted surf-style guitar over dreamy bass chords defines Shugazi's signature sound.
Both members of the group draw influences from all corners of the shoegaze spectrum including bands such as My Bloody Valentine, Jesus and Mary Chain, Cocteau Twins, Ride, Starflyer 59, Stone Roses, Slowdive.
Shugazi released their debut LP in May 2019 entitled Holy Fuzz.
