Silo's Choice is the alias of Jon Massey, Chicagoan, who since 2010 has reluctantly amassed an encyclopedic catalog bridging midwest indie and modern art music. Their latest release "Languid Swords" draws on various types of quintessentially American music – new age, Kottke-ish “primitive” guitar, jazz fusion – to tell political stories that fall backward into fable and myth or careen off the rails into the surreal: Americana with the end of America in its sights.
Previous notable records include "Tickety Boo" (2017), a very ambitious and possibly very irresponsible 100-minute song cycle about the apocalypse and points after, the day-glo and naively incendiary "Priorities USA" (2022), and the dark, fuzzy Some Nights You're the Sun, Some Nights You're the Moon (2016). "Living on Light", from that release, was featured on the podcast Welcome to Night Vale.
After making $1,000,000 dollars playing indie rock (outlined in the memoir "How I Made $1,000,000 Playing Indie Rock") Jon has officially retired to a home in the Hollywood Hills with three cats, an infinity pool, and a large collection of Polynesian records, and is working on a novel called "Guys".
