Simo Soo is a vocalist, producer and multi-instrumentalist from Naarm/Melbourne, Australia.
Having spent over 15 years in Australia’s underground experimental hip hop and electronica scene, they have released over 30 albums, EPs and mixtapes.
The Naarm-based, Western Sydney-born artist has performed all over Australia and has self-
booked multiple tours in the United States and Europe. Their music runs the history of hip hop
and punk rock music through a gauntlet of avant-garde electronica, heavy metal, Jersey club,
footwork and all manner of electronic and noise genres. Soo’s influences run from Missy Elliott to
Mahavishnu Orchestra, Björk to Bad Brains, DJ Rashad to Delia Derbyshire.
As an artist, they have forever been incapable of being placed into any box. Where this can be a
curse for the best of artists, Soo has used this as a strength to constantly push the boundaries of
what music in Australia can sound like, can be and can stand for. Their music is both lush and
ugly, cute and purposeful, self-empowering and intersectional. This ideal has extended through
out their vast discography and in their work as head of indie record label, Yes Rave.
Throughout their career, they have supported and collaborated with a very diverse range of artists such as KUČKA, Lil B, Curse Ov Dialect,
Chicks on Speed, Das Racist, Collarbones, Alex Lahey, Abdu Ali, Nardwuar the Human Serviette, Kirin J Callinan, the Boredoms and
countless others.
