Sinoia Caves is the solo alter ego of <a href="spotify:artist:00sAr10UTV1JZtHqxsLVn4">Black Mountain</a>'s Vancouver-based keyboardist Jeremy Schmidt, who is also a former member of <a href="spotify:artist:3uEHxcMHOWibxyidUdloxZ">Pipedream</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:46XudiprCWFUJ7d4peXv5c">the Battles</a>. Outside the confines of his primary maximal hard rock band, as Sinoia Caves he records exclusively with vintage synthesizers and organs. His spacy, post-psych, post-German sound reflects influences from early <a href="spotify:artist:5zeiqAaIiDrjiDch33A2lT">Popol Vuh</a> to middle period <a href="spotify:artist:1BGN1IdyiSR0ZYrkoKNchl">Tangerine Dream</a>, from <a href="spotify:artist:3U2U4TR03ZuStsizrv0EJB">Klaus Schulze</a> to <a href="spotify:artist:0mkcYaXUbJUs5mJointuzB">Rick Wakeman</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2Zi0XljYMecih2LyEEWFla">Bo Hansson</a>, and composer/director <a href="spotify:artist:0hxQtmgWiPtEsDPeIuKxXq">John Carpenter</a>.
Sinoia Caves issued its debut full-length, The Enchanter Persuaded, in 2006 on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Jagjaguwar%2FBrah+Records%22">Jagjaguwar/Brah Records</a>, introducing rich, dramatic, and textured sounds.
In 2010, Sinoia Caves was commissioned by Canadian filmmaker Panos Cosmatos -- son of director George P. Cosmatos -- to score his debut feature film, Beyond the Black Rainbow. The picture made the festival circuit and was eventually picked up for distribution and received a theatrical release in the U.S. and Canada. In the late summer of 2014, <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Jagjaguwar%22">Jagjaguwar</a> released the full soundtrack/score to Beyond the Black Rainbow. ~ Thom Jurek, Rovi
