Quinn McGovern’s project, Sister James, is an example of how the isolation, fear and uncertainty that enshrouds daily life can actually be transmuted into something communal, cleansing and even uplifting. While quarantining with friends and collaborators at the Jersey Shore in the early Spring of 2020, McGovern crafted a collection of songs that speak to the richness of his experiences even though his ability to have new ones had been hindered. The first part of this collection of new music, “I Hate It Here Pt. 1”, is out on April 16th, 2021.
McGovern’s songwriting partnership with Brooklyn singer-songwriter Samia on leading single “Questions”, is inspired by her early support of the song after hearing McGovern play it in a backyard in Portland while their bands were on tour together. “I was totally blown away.” she remembers. "Quinn has influenced so much of my songwriting over the past 3 years; we've written together and demoed most of my songs together. I feel very lucky to get to be a part of this song three years later, after it's already inspired so much of my work and feels like such an integral part of our music community.” McGovern echoes much the same sentiment of her: “Hearing her music since we met on that tour has given me so much of the inspiration that I have depended on while approaching my own music.”
