Skapes is a relatively new name on the UK underground house scene. You may also know him from his previous work as Twocker (with Low Steppa), Calvertron or his earlier work in the techno/house scene as Alex Calver (his real name) where he clocked up well over 100 vinyl releases.
Some of Alex’s career landmarks include releasing his music on Data (Ministry of Sound), Toolroom, Cr2, New State and remixing a diverse plethora of big league acts like Guru Josh, Skeptre, Sander Kleinenberg, Zero B, Stanton Warriors and Enter Shikari. He has also enjoyed a very successful career as a DJ touring the globe several times over making regular appearances all over the States, Europe, South America, Asia and Australia (where he mixed a successful Ministry of Sound compilation album!). In 2016 he made a break onto the UK festival scene with sets at Beatherder and Birmingham’s MADE Festival.
His new pseudonym Skapes is already making waves with regular plays on BBC Radio 1, Rinse FM and Kiss FM. His latest releases on labels like Simma Black and Criminal Hype have gained support from heavy hitters Todd Terry, Mark Knight, Richy Ahmed, Claude Von Stroke and Steve Lawler to name a few.
In late 2015 Skapes founded his own label ‘Eskape Musik’ and it’s already on its 19th release! Skapes was nominated no.2 by Traxsource in their ‘10 Artists to watch’ featured in ‘Magnetic Mag’ in March.
The back end of 2016 is looking very promising with EPs lined up on Defined, MadTech and Elrow!!
