Formed in 1987, Tampa’s Slap of Reality are lifelong members of the Florida Punk and DIY scene. Between 1988-1996, the band released three seven-inch records, two full-length LPs, and toured the US and internationally. Initially rooted in 7 Seconds-era hardcore, the band evolved into a melodic punk sound, catching the attention of Minneapolis-based Skene Records (Green Day, Jawbreaker). Through Skene’s partnership with Elektra Records, Slap of Reality wrote and recorded what would have been their major label debut, 1996’s Monkeydust. The album was shelved and not released at that time, but is now available on streaming platforms, along with 1991’s Three Lefts Make a Right, showcasing the band’s sound from that era. In 2019, the band released the EP Gaslight on A Jam Records, co-owned by Joe Koontz (Against All Authority), and featuring Chris Wollard (Hot Water Music) on backing vocals.

Now, Slap of Reality is releasing “Cover It Up,” the lead single from their upcoming album, GOODBYE, ME, coming later this year via Res Ipsa Records. “Cover It Up is about the process of change; redefining yourself but never really ever being able to escape your past be it good or bad”, says lead singer Frank Lacatena.
Slap of Reality is Frank Lacatena (Vocals), Joe Kiser (Guitar), David Peralta (Guitar), Gregg Moore (Bass), and Rob Sexton (Drums)
