Slippery Elm is a poet, emcee, singer and flamenco dancer based in Vancouver, BC and Granada, Spain. Between 2008 and 2012, as a founding member of jazzy hip-hop collective Elekwent Folk, he released three full length albums, becoming a regular fixture of Vancouver’s hip-hop scene, opening for numerous artists including Digital Underground, Digable Planets, Shabazz Palaces, Moka Only, Saul Williams, J-Live and many more. In 2011, he released two EPs as a solo artist in collaboration with producer and multi-instrumentalist AstroLogical (Potatohead People). From 2013 to 2023 he took a hiatus from hip-hop to focus on flamenco. During this period he performed his poetry and dance regularly in Granada’s Sala Vimaambi, as well as venues in Europe, Africa, and North America. He is the author of two pocket poetry books, as well as a lyrical collection of essays in Hebrew, Arabic, and Romance philology—centred around the crossroads between language and the land—entitled The Dead Hermes Epistolary.
Currently, he has reunited with Vancouver’s acclaimed producer duo Potatohead People to release his latest offering—a full length hip-hop/neo-soul album entitled ‘Emerald Tablet’, which is due out July 11, 2025.
