Sloth was formed in 1999 from the remnants of cult doom metal bands Godzilla and <a href="spotify:artist:25HyKRZE0M8kPfHJob9fYE">Mourn</a>, and featured singer Gaz Ricketts, guitarist Roland Scriver, bassist Will Palmer, and drummer Vince Scriver. After making its live debut opening for <a href="spotify:artist:72HNVukiuzWD85BJqIKWHc">Spirit Caravan</a> at the Marquee Club, the quartet inevitably signed with Lee Dorrian's doom-specialized Rise Above label, and entered Backstage Studios in mid-2000 to prepare its ominously titled first album, The Voice of God, with <a href="spotify:artist:3nutnJ57QnbWEdCWn2EyWo">Orange Goblin</a> producer Dave Chang.
