Honningbarna guitarist Johan Hansson Liljeberg started Smiling in 2018 to work through the heartbreak of a breakup. Since then, the project has evolved into a full-fledged band with Arvid Ingvarsson (Mary Anne's Polar Rig), Julia Wiklund (New Banke) and August Glännestrand, ( LAV SOL, Liv Andrea Hauge Trio)
In Smiling, the band move freely between genres such as bedroom pop, prog and synth-based ballads, with Johan's unique songwriting and melodic flair as a common thread that binds everything together. The lyrics are often introspective and strike a fine balance between self-pity and self-deprecation, taking the listener through everyday observations such as a walk to your best friend's apartment or the memories of an old car.
