Sonic Moon was formed in Aarhus, Denmark in the fall of 2016. The members connected through a common love for stoner rock and psychedelic rock, admiring bands like Electric Wizard, Kyuss, Corrosion of Conformity and Monolord.
Sonic Moon is the sound of Kevin Starrs meeting Josh Homme on an acid trip in the dark Scandinavian winter. It is heavy guitar-riffs drowned in fuzz and delay, carried through by a swaying drum- and bass-section and a raw, melodic vocal. The lyrics consume the remaining light touching subjects like nihilism, sorrow and anger.
The band recorded their first single “Lost Faces” in the summer of 2017 which was well acclaimed. After releasing the acoustic single “Among Sheep”, the band recorded their debut EP. “In Orbit” was released in October 2018. It was recorded at Dead Rat Studio by Jacob Bredahl. The band went on a Spring-tour in Denmark as part of the release of “In Orbit” where they played SPOT-festival in Aarhus.
In December 2019 the band released their second EP “Usually I Don’t Care For Flowers”. The EP was recorded, mixed and mastered in correlation with a good friend of the band, Frederik Toftgaard.
“Usually I Don’t Care For Flowers” was recorded in Sonic Moons dank rehearsal studio with a DIY-approach, which gave the EP a characteristic and raw sound which lead to a critically acclaimed production.
Today the band consists of Jeppe Rasmussen, Emil Damgaard Andersen, Emil Klinkby, Niclas Fritz Sørensen and Oliver Lyngkilde.
