At sixteen, Sonny took to the streets of Galway, on Ireland’s wild West Coast, and began a love affair with busking. Armed only with a guitar and a backpack full of homemade CDs, she soon flew to the South of France, busking and travelling across Europe, capturing hearts with her songs in cafés, parks and on the streets along the way.
Sonny’s music rises from dark, tender depths. Much like the wild, rugged landscape of her hometown along the mystical Atlantic, her voice is distinctive and stirring, balanced by a softness and fragility—like a wave on the verge of breaking. Raised on Springsteen and influenced by contemporary folk artists such as Gregory Alan Isakov and Phoebe Bridgers, her music is shaped by nature, poetry, and storytelling.
In 2020, she planted her bare feet in Berlin, swapping the streets for stages. With the support of those who’d fallen for her music along her travels, she crowdfunded her debut EP ‘Phoebe’ and sold out her debut headline show at Prachtwerk, firmly anchoring herself in the city’s thriving music scene.
Sonny has since toured Ireland and Germany, opening for Mick Flannery and sharing stages with legends like Liam Ó Maonlaí, while playing festivals such as the Galway Folk Festival and Secret Song.
In an attic by the sea, in the depths of winter, she recorded her debut album. The first single from which is set for release in 2025.
Sonny is currently based between Ireland and Berlin.
