Soon E MC started as a member of the 501 Posse, representing the future "cool" school of French rap. MC Solaar, Menelik, Melaaz, and Bambi Cruz were also in that group, which formed at the end of the '80s and pushed things forward after meeting Jimmy Jay and DJ Seeq in 1990. Soon E MC signed with EMI after the success of MC Solaar's first efforts, and Seeq produced a track in 1991 that would become the rapper's "Elucider Ce Mystère." Following the success of this single, the mini-LP Rap. Jazz. Soul, featuring seven new tracks, was released in 1992. With Soon E MC now making his first appearances on music channels, his first long-player came out in 1993, with Seeq still in command. This album, largely underrated and unnoticed, contains some beautiful gems of "cool" rap in the tradition initiated by MC Solaar, with Soon E MC pacing the flow to make sure that listeners could understand the meaningful lyrics. The jazzy production combined with his warm voice made this album a true gem for fans of jazz-rap. Soon E MC would continue his adventures with a second and equally noteworthy album, Intime Conviction. Despite his talent, this artist hasn't had the chance to record an album again, an unfortunate reality given his warm voice and lyric content. ~ Vincent Latz, Rovi
