Sophie Irving

Manchester based indie-folk songwriter and singer Sophie Irving is best known for her debut single ‘Figure from a Spark’ which has acclaimed over 200,000 streams since its release in 2019, when Sophie was only fourteen. Since this, Sophie has released four other singles; the most recent of which, ‘I’ll Build You a Home’, captures her sound most authentically and displays the musical direction she would like to pursue. Sophie lays bare her emotions through her writing, enabling her to create a raw, honest and intimate soundscape which never fails to move her listeners. Taking influence from the production used by modern folk artists such as Hayley Hendrickx, Adrianne Lenker and Billie Marten, Sophie combines this with the personal writing style used by lots of ‘70s folk artists, like Bridgett St John, to create a uniquely vulnerable and comforting sound that expresses feminine energy. Whilst currently working on her upcoming EP, Sophie can also often be found gigging in and around Manchester with her band Chimaera. Her writing themes explore love found and lost, the concept of memory and the artist’s own personal relationship to nature which can be seen in a touching tribute to her roots: the music video for ‘I’ll Build You a Home’. ❤️
