<a href="spotify:artist:46oZB2SJjqHFwyl5I6H75k" data-name="Joel Cadbury">Joel Cadbury</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:05RYazFbA3Q7usx3N4pJWi" data-name="Jamie McDonald">Jamie McDonald</a> and Brett Shaw (<a href="spotify:artist:3P1ilb31PxK7vi6fSvujif" data-name="123 Mixtape">123 Mixtape</a>), grew up in and around Camden, North London in the 1990s. Forming <a href="spotify:artist:35bNB30UmhyVGYrCBjdlYr" data-name="South">South</a> as school friends aged 14 and signing to the influential Mo Wax label in 1998. They released their debut album <a href="spotify:album:6lph0kgcmyjZpNkirJXjZI" data-name="From Here On In">From Here On In</a> in 2001.
Their regular collaborations with <a href="spotify:artist:2nszamLjZFgu3Yx77mKxuC" data-name="UNKLE">UNKLE</a>, composing the score to Jonathan Glazer’s debut feature Sexy Beast and featuring on the soundtrack of the early naughties teen drama The OC (<a href="spotify:album:4ttkSoq4uoawALTcXoeYTs" data-name="Music From The O.C. Mix 1">Music From The O.C. Mix 1</a>) led to an awareness of <a href="spotify:artist:35bNB30UmhyVGYrCBjdlYr" data-name="South">South</a> internationally. They toured extensively in the US, Japan, Europe and the UK throughout the naughties including tours with <a href="spotify:artist:0TJB3EE2efClsYIDQ8V2Jk" data-name="Elbow">Elbow</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0epOFNiUfyON9EYx7Tpr6V" data-name="The Strokes">The Strokes</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3C8RpaI3Go0yFF9whvKoED" data-name="The Avalanches">The Avalanches</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1rCIEwPp5OnXW0ornlSsRl" data-name="Metric">Metric</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2vJObElaIZWYDLpiXiJMo9" data-name="Cornelius">Cornelius</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:4fw9oPmbbmHW5aAJpkJdlI" data-name="Margot &amp; The Nuclear So And So&#39;s">Margot &amp; The Nuclear So And So&#39;s</a>.
<a href="spotify:artist:35bNB30UmhyVGYrCBjdlYr" data-name="South">South</a> went on to to release a further three albums, <a href="spotify:album:4BkS802QxtCGw0TWKzcorO" data-name="With the Tides">With the Tides</a> (2003), <a href="spotify:album:5YMyjzlCSzPx8uPZEmp5MK" data-name="Adventures in the Underground Journey to the Stars">Adventures in the Underground Journey to the Stars</a> (2006) and <a href="spotify:album:20Tl2zXjiZVKZWLus2SGIQ" data-name="You Are Here">You Are Here</a> (2008). In 2021, twenty years after its original release <a href="spotify:album:6lph0kgcmyjZpNkirJXjZI" data-name="From Here On In">From Here On In</a> was re mastered and re-issued on vinyl along with a companion album <a href="spotify:album:1DNzcHv9kGrlrFeZsw5ckL" data-name="From Here on Out">From Here on Out</a>, a compilation of unreleased tracks, B Sides, and 4 Track tape demos.
