Spahn Ranch was formed in 1992 in Los Angeles by New Yorkers Matt Green and Rob Morton, the group soon signed to Cleopatra to release a self-titled EP that same year. In 1993, Spahn Ranch added veteran vocalist and lyricist Athan Maroulis, then completed their debut album "Collateral Damage." Their sophomore effort, the infamous "The Coiled One," put the band on the map and was the last album appearance by Morton. Spahn Ranch added Christian Death drummer David Glass (born Parkinson), former Screams for Tina guitarist Kent Bancroft and drummer Harry Lewis, collectively making for quite a live band with a more diverse industrial/darkwave sound. Spahn Ranch continued to release albums throughout the late '90s; 1997's "Architecture" featured collaborations with the late Killing Joke/Prong bassist Paul Raven and 1998's "Beat Noir" showcased work with Bauhaus bassist David J. Toward the close of the decade, Spahn Ranch became a solid three-piece with Green, Maroulis, and Lewis. Spahn Ranch toured endlessly, playing gigs across North America with Front Line Assembly, Switchblade Symphony, Front 242, Rammstein, Apoptygma Berzerk, Type O Negative and Project Pitchfork. In less than 8 years, Spahn Ranch cut 5 studio albums, 4 EPs and did over 200 concerts in a dozen countries before officially calling it a day in late 2000. Leaving no mystery behind, Spahn Ranch's final album was entitled "Closure," and was released in 2001.
