Meet Spectre Jones, a band started by Wilson Howard (bass & lead vocals) and Jacob Williams (guitar) while they were living and working in the closets of a recording studio in Los Angeles.
The name “Spectre Jones” simply sounded interesting to the duo, but along the way, the name has come to evoke a spirit of longing or the “ghost of the American dream.”
Eventually, they needed to get the band together properly, so local friends & musicians - John Anderson (guitar), Brett Stratemeyer (keys), & Alexa Shafer (drums) - joined the party. Despite knowing each other for nearly a decade, they continue to be proficient at convincing others, as well as themselves, that they're still friends.
Spectre Jones has since established a wide-ranging catalog of work, drawing inspiration from artists both contemporary (Animal Collective, Dr. Dog) and classic (The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac). Whether or not their name sounds familiar, you’ve probably heard their music featured in film or a number of TV shows including Grey’s Anatomy, Good Trouble, and a host of MTV programs.
All projects were self-recorded until their debut album, Joy in the Morning, which was recorded live-to-tape at the historic Boulevard Recording and Ruckus Studios by Grammy-nominated producer & engineer James Krausse. The resulting record does in fact breathe and move in the natural way the band hoped, full of both electric inspiration and human error, the line between which presents a constant question among the crew.
