Squalloscope is Anna Kohlweis, an interdisciplinary artist merging writing, music production, painting, her voice, fiber art, sculpture, video, and illustration. Anna Kohlweis has been a solo performer and recording artist as Paper Bird (2006-2011) and Squalloscope (since 2012) and is one half of the band Twin Tooth.
Squalloscope is an intimate endeavour, as Kohlweis utilizes music, poetry, and visual arts in equal measures to create a narrative universe highly influenced by the politics of being alive, the intricacies of language, light, color, inhabiting a neurodivergent mess of a human body, and the depths of the human psyche.
Squalloscope is currently based in Vienna, Austria.

“It gives me a feeling I’ve never gotten from an album before, like my cooler big sister has let me into her room to talk to me about things. It’s so comforting and wise and funny and unabashedly strange in certain ways. It makes me feel braver.”
— Colin Swegman (PT Burnem)

“Like a soft duck wing holding a rocket launcher...It’s devastating. In a sweet way.”
— Myles Bullen
