Stéphanie-Marie Degand is one of the rare violinists equally at home in repertoire ranging from the 17th century to contemporary creation. Trained in Caen and later at the Paris Conservatoire, where she earned four first prizes, she studied with leading figures such as Jacques Rouvier, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, William Christie, and Christophe Coin, shaping her unique approach to repertoire without boundaries.
A sought-after soloist, chamber musician, concertmaster, conductor, and educator, she has received numerous distinctions, including the Adami Grand Prix, a prize at the Ferras-Barbizet Competition, and a Victoires de la Musique award. In 2000, she co-founded Le Concert d’Astrée with Emmanuelle Haïm, serving as concertmaster and musical assistant.
She performs under conductors like Emmanuel Krivine and François-Xavier Roth, and collaborates in chamber music with artists such as Marie-Josèphe Jude, Christophe Rousset, and Emmanuelle Bertrand. From the violin or the podium, she has led ensembles like the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège and Les Violons du Roy. In 2016, she was assistant conductor for Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées.
Her wide-ranging discography reflects her musical curiosity—from Monteverdi to Tanguy—and she currently teaches at the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMDP), where she holds a teaching certification (CA).
