I’m Steve Poltz — Canadian-American singer-songwriter, guitar freak, and professional goofball based in East Nashville. You might know me from the Rugburns or co-writing “You Were Meant for Me” with Jewel (yep, that one).
My new album JoyRide is my 14th solo record. It happened when producer Dex Green tricked me into his studio with the ol’ “just come jam” routine. Next thing you know: boom, 10 songs. Real people. Real instruments. Real weird.
There’s mischief (“If It Bleeds It Leads”), heart (“Petrichor”), cosmic co-writes with Jim Lauderdale (“At It Again”), and even a cameo from Jesus. (Kinda.) I sing about love, liver replacements, and Mao Zedong’s ping pong game. It’s chaos and joy with a capo.
I tour nonstop, tell stories, write songs, and hug strangers. Thanks for listening.
