Stigma Rock Unit wanted to be an emo band, yet the pulls of elaborate guitar solos and prog-ish noodling refused to let go. On their only release, Treasure Path to Soul Winning, the group had their pop sensibilities intact, offering gems in the vein of Superchunk and Boy's Life.
Formed in Lynchburg, VA, in 1992, the band displayed surprising staying power. After relocating to nearby Blacksburg, VA, they hooked up with a local avant-garde label, Squealer, for their full-length. In 1999, the band called it quits. ~ Yancey Strickler, Rovi
