Superet was born on Valentine's Day 2016, “the day I decided to fall in love with myself,” says frontman Matt Blitzer. His new album – an orchestral pop odyssey called “Loving Lies” – is here to explore what it means to love somebody else. He performs the concept album like a play, delivering an at once heartbreaking and hopeful story about a relationship that’s working through rock bottom.
“The first song is about being cheated on, and it’s the catalyst for a larger, more nuanced conversation around betrayal. Infidelity is where the conversation starts and ends for many relationships, but in truth there are a lot of ways you can betray the person you’re with. I had to explore that for myself and it was messy but worth it.”
The record features a small chamber orchestra and a rock band influenced by 1960s pop composers and Hollywood golden era musicals, all intentionally juxtaposed alongside a modern exploration of love, partnership, and masculinity. Loving Lies is out now.
