Hailing from Kuala Lumpur, Sweetass crafts a distinctly Southeast Asian strain of alternative rock — fuzz-drenched, emotionally raw, and defiantly loud. Blending the disaffection of ‘90s grunge with the melodic pull of noise-pop and punk’s restless edge, their sound is humid, heavy, and heartbreakingly honest.

Their debut Wa Caya Lu (2018) introduced a playful, sardonic voice in the region’s DIY scene. With Heavy Rotation (2023), they dove deeper — heavier tones, sharper emotion, and anthems of suburban malaise. Cult favourites like “Celaka,” “Dosa Bersama,” “Suria,” and “Si Kiwi” reveal a distinct emotional charge beneath all the noise.

Live, they’re a wall-of-sound: three guitars, unfiltered energy, and cathartic volume. That visceral presence has earned them a loyal following across Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, and Indonesia — and a growing reputation as one of Southeast Asia’s most vital underground exports.

Whether lighting up local festivals, tearing through clubs, or repping Vans Malaysia with their Tak Pasti video and Borneo tour, Sweetass has stayed loud, weird, and completely their own.

Their upcoming record Hang Loose promises to be a culmination: looser, louder, more exposed — and more Sweetass than ever.
