Swilson (aka John, J Willy, JW) is an aspiring songwriter, recording artist, producer, playlist curator, practicing attorney, father, coach, and former professional baseball player from Houston, Texas. He began writing music and freestyle rapping as a high school baseball player at Lamar High School where he was a Perfect Game All-State Outfielder/Pitcher committed to Rice University.
Swilson emerged on the music scene after a viral freestyle video was picked up by Bleacher Report & Barstool Sports in 2016. At the time, he was playing professional baseball with the Chicago Cubs organization. In the famous clubhouse freestyle, he predicted his Cubs would break their 108 year losing streak and win the World Series. The video quickly accrued 10+ million views. Since then, he has released multiple full-length albums and has reached #15 on iTunes Hip-Hop. Following his baseball career, the Houston native finished his degree at Rice, studied law at the University of Houston, and obtained a masters degree from UNC in public administration. While Swilson is now an attorney, dad, and baseball coach, he continues to write, and produce, music in his spare time with a newfound focus on country and folk records.
