Since 2005, Stephen Holliger has been creating captivating compositions and soundscapes under the moniker Swim Ignorant Fire. As a composer, audio engineer, and sound artist, Holliger has dedicated the past two decades to recording, touring, and engaging in extensive collaborations within the realm of Midwest experimental ambient music.
Holliger's approach involves sculpting cinematic ambient soundscapes using a diverse array of techniques, including found sounds, field recordings, FM and abstract synthesis, as well as sample manipulation. The result is a truly immersive experience that brings his environments to life.
Notably, Holliger actively collaborates with a variety of talented artists, including Yea Big and Nate Hahn on pedal steel (Ohtis) as Swim Ignorant Fire, Eddie Breitweiser (Pt.Fwd) as Slow Dog, and co-founding No Below Editions, a small Midwest label devoted to locally curated experimental music with limited physical media runs.
