“I’d rather skip right to the movin’ on,” sings Taylor Kopp in ‘Folded Paper.’ It’s never that easy, of course, but on his new EP, Kopp and his characters consider all paths forward, shortcuts and roundabouts included.

The Movin’ On is the second release from the Portland, Oregon country-folk songwriter. This five-song collection delivers his signature storytelling and haunting vocals, but with fresh sonic elements introduced via his new collaboration with producer and pedal steel player Raymond Richards (Blitzen Trapper, Local Natives). The resulting sound, both ethereal and organic, represents an exciting step forward for the artist.

As with Found, Kopp's first album, his new material rewards repeated listening. On ‘November Sunrise,’ he sings, "When the winter comes / I'm gonna need you / under that hidden sun / I'm gonna need you to need me too.” And in the sly lyrics of the dusty country waltz ‘Fresno’ he cautions, “I really don’t mean no offense to Fresno / But run while you can from Fresno and me.”

Now several years removed from the personal grief he explored on Found, Kopp broadens his scope. Yet he handles his subjects, from angels to lowdown men, with the same gentle care, inviting listeners to stay close as they travel on through the mysteries together.
