Harald Walter Bernhard Schubring (better known as Ted Herold) was a popular German schlagersanger best known for his German-language covers of the songs of Elvis Presley. He made his first recording when he was only 16, having made contact with the folks at Polydor through a school chum. A full-length album's worth of Elvis covers followed soon after, at which point he adopted the stage name Ted Herold. A full-blown contract with Polydor-Vienna followed, and Herold released numerous albums and singles throughout the late '50s and early '60s. Herold was drafted into the army in 1963; his military career, combined with the German public's waning interest in rockabilly, signaled the end of his career at the top of the pops. His last single on Polydor hit stores in 1966, and Herold's next record deal didn't roll around until he obtained a contract with Teledec in the '70s. He released numerous albums on that label throughout the '80s. There was a resurgence of interest in Herold in the '90s, culminating in the release of several new albums in the early 2000s. Ted Herold died on November 20, 2021 in a house fire; he was 79 years old. ~ TiVo Staff, Rovi
