René, born in Germany 1953, always had an insatiable curiosity for the world and a restless spirit of adventure. Ever since he was a kid, he felt most at home on the open road, later, as a young man, traveling to new places and soaking in new sounds and rhythms. Music has been his faithful companion on this lifelong journey of discovery. It helped him to navigate unfamiliar terrain, learn new languages, and connect with people from all walks of life. Along the way, he picked up instruments, sounds and melodies from every culture he had encountered. Its musical repertoire today is as eclectic and vibrant as the stamps in his well-worn passport. This nomadic lifestyle and his passion for fusing world music traditions have shaped him into the musician and person he is today. This is the story of his musical odyssey across borders, boundaries and genres.

As he traveled through Middle East, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and then later through eastern Africa all the way down to Johannesburg and Cape Town, the soundtrack of his journey emerged from the places and people he encountered along the way.

The open road led him to discover music in the moment, connecting him to new places and people through a common bond - the joy of a song.
