The Beards assembled in 2001 as a side project for vocalist and bassist Lisa Marr, formerly of Cub and of Buck; drummer Sherri Solinger, and guitarist/vocalist Kim Shattuck of the Muffs. The all-female trio decided on recording their debut disc not long after forming, especially due to the success of "(I Am Always Touched by Your) Presence," a track created for the compilation How Many Bands Does It Take to Screw up a Blondie Tribute, distributed by Sympathy for the Record Industry. After securing the work of producer Jeff McDonald, the group promptly started working on their first disc. Funtown, the band's debut, hit record stores in April of 2002. Kim Shattuck died on October 2, 2019, following a two-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ~ Mario Mesquita Borges, Rovi
