The post-rock/experimental outfit the Big Sleep feature Danny Barria (guitar), Sonya Balchandani (bass/vocals), and Gabe Rhodes (drums). The Brooklyn-based trio creates a brooding batch of psychedelic rock with an indie rock aesthetic. Prior to forming the Big Sleep in 2005, Balchandani made her debut with the stylish noise pop band Hong Kong, while Barria played with <a href="spotify:artist:2qlW5MFeHssyUCbitfNmJx">Haywood</a> and the Detroit dream pop act <a href="spotify:artist:4Ik5hkDngW1R1Y4aWdNumq">Mahogany</a>. They also self-released the You Today, Me Tomorrow EP before landing a recording contract with French Kiss in early 2006. Son of the Tiger marked their LP debut in September of that year while 2008's Sleep Forever earned comparisons to <a href="spotify:artist:5UqTO8smerMvxHYA5xsXb6">Sonic Youth</a>'s early work. They returned in 2012 with a smaller line-up, just Barria and Balchandani, and the album Nature Experiments which featured the single "Ace." ~ MacKenzie Wilson
