Since 2018, Dutch songwriter Rokus Maasland has been releasing music as The Bowery, writing and performing songs for the broken and the brave. Surrounded by a strong live band, he creates songs that give voice to brokenness while daring to point toward hope.
Rooted in raw honesty and shaped by life’s fractures — grief, doubt, loss, and longing — The Bowery tells stories through songs that acknowledge pain without romanticizing it. From that brokenness, the music opens windows toward meaning, faith, and resilience. Maasland writes from a Christian perspective, not to convince, but to encourage — welcoming listeners regardless of where they stand in belief.
Musically, The Bowery blends a Springsteen-like band sound with the intimacy of Passenger and the lived-in depth of Tom Waits. Years of international writing trips, particularly to Nashville, TN, have further enriched the sound with folk, country, and Americana influences.
