2009 was a sad year for polka in some ways. The genre was dropped as a category of the Grammy awards in order to “keep in line with the current musical landscape.” There are those who feel polka is dead, but The Bräts quarrel with the notion.

Every October the Deutsches Haus New Orleans has been keeping the sounds and emotions of “trip the light fantastic” polka alive, to accelerate the culture and history of oom pah song and dance. After only 2 years of performances, The Bräts earned their position as the Deutsches Haus’ headlining act. Since then the group has spread their wings in an effort to spread the gospel of polka, and deliver the sweet sounds of childlike joy to all far and wide.
