“Listening to The Carolyn Sills Combo, you might do a double-take: Is this newly fashioned country music, or a long-lost 1950s or '60s band coming out of the ether? The Combo is indeed that good.” - Vintage Guitar Magazine, 2024.
2024 Ameripolitan Award Winners, The Carolyn Sills Combo makes American roots music that reaches across genre boundaries, driven forward by the sharp songwriting of the band's front woman. Their fourth album, On The Draw, finds them embracing the full range of their influences, with tales of the Yukon gold rush, #2 pencils and mustachioed cowboy motorcyclists.
"I love writing story-driven snapshots where every word counts," says Sills, a Sacramento Western Swing Hall of Fame inductee who serves as her group's lead singer, bass player and chief songwriter. After paying tribute to country cowboy Marty Robbins with their 2019 release, Return to El Paso — a critically-acclaimed concept album that earned Sills the title of "Western Swing Female of the Year" from the Academy of Western Artists — she widens her focus with On The Draw.
Carolyn is joined by steel guitarist Charlie Joe Wallace, harmony vocalist Sunshine Jackson, drummer Jimmy Norris and guitarist/husband Gerard Egan. Fans of Patsy Cline, Marty Robbins, Roger Miller, The Squirrel Nut Zippers, Willie Nelson, Cake and Neko Case should enjoy their creative songwriting and musicianship. www.carolynsills.com
