Building on from the voices in rock that inspire him, such as Billy Corgan, Jack White & Kurt Cobain, the grungy experimentalism of The Smashing Pumpkins and the rawness of band Nirvana, Mattilo's (frontman) blend of influences merge to bring back the nostalgic feel of the 90's to create a dynamic and emotive palette. Mattilo is leading The Coils to an emotional revival of grunge/pop rock and 90s nostalgia.
Astonishingly, Mattilo - songwriter, guitarist and vocalist - only began playing and writing rock music during the first wave of Covid in the US (in March 2020). Mattilo was originally a DJ/electronic music producer who penned his first major deal with Universal Music Group at only 16 years old. With Covid hitting the US, falling out of love with electronic music, and dealing other inner issues, he turned to writing his own rock demos as a way to cope. The Coils comprises of drummer Chris Abeyta , and front-man Mattilo. They met in high school and began playing together in Chris' parent's garage during the pandemic.
